Poem 351 – Abracadabra

Sophie’s magic trick
“Masquerading as a male”
Fools Magic Circle

9th December 1991, the Magic Circle finally allowed women to join their ranks, only to find that one already had! Sophie Lloyd, disguised as Raymond, had earned her place. With the decision of the Circle she revealed her true identity, and was promptly kicked out… Now, the Circle is trying to find her again, in order to invite her back.

Poem 337 – Hopefully-Not-A-Talking Heads Haiku

We’re on the road to…
Somewhere, but we don’t quite know
Exactly where yet!

The second day of our church movement’s annual conference is done, and so am I – I help run it and only ever make it through with a combination of adrenaline, caffine and prayer! We’re on a journey over the three days of thinking about where we’ve come from, where we are, and where we might be heading next.

Poem 275 – A Day in Haiku

Does TV beckon?
Time travel thirty-two years
Serve at the foodbank

Write a daily thought
Prepare a final goodbye
Do Toddler accounts

Cook veggie curry
Stick to a difficult no
Tidy the kitchen

Reflect on Greenbelt
Catch up with the family
Write today’s poem

It’s been a varied and busy day, not unusual in my line of work (church minister). When trying to write a poem a day, on days like this the haiku comes to the rescue. Here are four of them.

Poem 202 – A What3Words Haiku

Temperature plummets
and so whimsical winter
makes.poetic.snows

This was actually written way back before ‘Poem 1‘, but using what3words to locate my car and tent at Greenbelt reminded me of it. The gates and signposts in Lea Valley have what3words identifiers on them to help locate them. One not far from us is the magical ‘makes.poetic.snows‘. This was begging to be put in verse (but hopefully not into practice, not too soon anyway…)
