Friday evening’s here.
I’ve written, talked and shunted
all day long. I’m done.
A quick poem at the end of a busy day.

Sitting together
Around the dining table
Each doing their thing.
And yet we’re still united,
Trading tales and sharing air.
Sunday late afternoon, enjoying working alongside each other.

I should be writing a poem,
But it’s been a busy day,
Dealing with toddlers,
Shifting food,
Discussing the Bible,
Talking to church members,
Now the day’s done, and
Liverpool are beating Madrid,
So this will have to do.
Hopefully that’s game, set and match (to mix sports!)

Today I’ve been
trying to power
through my work,
typing for hours.
The outcome? Just under
2,000 strides, and
two square eyes,
and too many slides.
No power walk
but I wonder if
I could plug my fingers
into the grid!
It’s a big week workwise for me next week, as I’m giving a talk at our church movement’s conference, as well as other content. This means it’s heads down right now to get everything done.

Twenty-five years,
three weddings and
too many funerals.
Baptisms in the garden,
sometimes warm,
but usually freezing.
Broxbourne foodbank,
winter night shelters,
Big Picnics at the park.
Soul Survivor,
Greenbelt,
weekends away.
Two schools and
numerous toddlers
toddlering.
Neverending rotas,
conversations,
unexpected meetings.
Five Advent candles –
so, who remembers
what they mean?
Pastoral visits,
Drop-In lunches
and nursing home services.
Three electric guitars
and three road bikes
pressed into service.
Church redevelopment
requiring prayer and
grants for funding.
So many faces,
places, emotions
and activities.
So many, so much
and yet throughout,
one God, one church, one family.
Today I celebrated 25 amazing years as minister at Wormley Free Church. What a privilege it’s been! These verses don’t do it justice, but I’ve loved being here and looking forward to where our life together as a church family takes us next.
