It’s Friday evening
The final-full stop is placed
Time for the weekend
It’s been a full and fruitful week but the weekend is definitely welcome.

The winding week is done, its work is over
The veiling night draws near, now dim the light
Its time to take account of all its triumphs
And put its problems prayerfully aside
Once ready, rest awhile and rediscover
That peaceful place that every person needs
Recall your core, your heart, your cornerstone
And gladly let the God of grace within
It’s Friday night!

Some days we do amazing things:
mend broken hearts, help those in need,
and make the world a better place.
Some days I reach that perfect note,
and find a satisfying rhyme or
fly faster or further on my bike.
Today is not that day.
Today I tarried in my bed,
then read a book and tidied up,
and finally did some shopping.
Enjoyed a mundane day today when nothing exceptional happened. Sometimes that is perfect.

At the end of the walk
look back at the route,
Retrace your paths
and steps, recall
the twists and turns,
the detours taken.
Remember the views,
and picture the scenes
that stopped your breath
and brought you life.
Recount steep paths,
successfully navigated;
gain strength for those
ongoing climbs.
Rest tired limbs;
the satisfying ache
of journey’s end –
at least for now.
Give thanks for those
who’ve walked with you,
and those you have
accompanied.
Tomorrow will bring more hours and challenges, but for now it’s Friday evening, and time to stop, take stop, and give thanks.

Slouched on the sofa
Watching programmes on the box
With my other half
It’s the weekend. A night to relax.
