The carols are done
I’ve sung until I’ve gone hoarse
Tired yet happy
It’s been a day of leading carols with our scratch Nativity play and carol service. Done in, and satisfied.

Taunted by a cold
I am playing hide and seek
Trying to escape
Taking it easy tonight ahead on a rare evening off right now.

At security
Bring patted down, of course

Off to roll some dice
To lose at every boardgame
But have lots of fun!
Making space for fun

Parted by the miles
Frustrated by the distance
Can love leap the gap
Facing the challenge of being there.

Attempting to both
Move into the neighbourhood
And be a pilgrim
Walking the tension
Between putting down deep roots
And living lightly
Trying to invest
In other people whilst not
Losing his footsteps
I’m currently reading Joanne Harris’ new book Vianne, which explores the risk of losing freedom by putting down roots, and in so doing captures the tension as some Christians present it between being ‘in this world but not of it’.
