Poem 754 – Some Days

Jan 7, 2026Jan 8, 2026 / BenDQ / Leave a comment

Other things matter
Poetry must stand aside
Until tomorrow

A poetic placeholder.

Out of imagination
Maybe tomorrow

Poem 745 – Interrupted

Dec 29, 2025Jan 8, 2026 / BenDQ / Leave a comment

Escape room antics
Stopped me writing mid-poem.
Escaped. Tomorrow?

Working on a photo inspired poem today, but a family escape room game to me away from it for now…

Poem 743 – Text Them to Say We’ll Be Late

Dec 27, 2025Jan 8, 2026 / BenDQ / Leave a comment

Seasonal traffic
A family Christmas visit
Six hours on the road

Off to see the other half of the family today. Not as straightforward a journey as predicted.

Full of wonderful surprise

Poem 730 – Hark the Haiku

Dec 14, 2025Jan 8, 2026 / BenDQ / Leave a comment

The carols are done
I’ve sung until I’ve gone hoarse
Tired yet happy

It’s been a day of leading carols with our scratch Nativity play and carol service. Done in, and satisfied.

Taunted by a cold
I am playing hide and seek
Trying to escape

Taking it easy tonight ahead on a rare evening off right now.

Inspired by a combination of Paul Cookson’s Daily Poems on Twitter, my father’s own writing, and National Poetry Day, I decided in 2021 to try writing a poem everyday for thirty days. Having reached my target, I've kept on writing...

My poems are inspired by day to day experiences or encounters, or occasionally the news if it grabs me and I feel the need to try and articulate a response. Someone suggested to me that it is my version of journaling - there's a lot to that. I live next to the River Lea and its regional park, and many reflect the joy I have in the wildlife and beauty of the area.

They're written for myself, although I'd be lying if I said it doesn't please me when someone else enjoys them. Feel free to leave comments and feedback!
